The Telangana police charged BJP MP Tejasvi Surya for trespassing upon the Osmania University in Hyderabad. This incident happened earlier this week during his campaign for the city civic polls.
Surya went to the university earlier on November 24 with his supporters to address the Arts College students. He allegedly removed barricades and barbed wire at the gates to do so.
BJP MP Tejasvi Surya denies trespassing on Osmania campus, accuses Telangana CM
Presently, Surya claims that they merely wished to pay respects to the Telangana movement’s martyrs at OU. He then accused Chief Minister K Chandrashekara Rao of ordering the police to block him from entering the campus. However, police denied these claims. They stated that the university itself placed barricades so only staff and students could enter.
Telangana Police Chief, Mahender Reddy, has also confirmed that the registrar of the university filed a criminal trespass complaint against Surya.
The address was supposed to be part of his campaigning for the upcoming GHMC elections on December 1. The government has already announced a public holiday in order for citizens to vote at ease.
