On Friday, PayTM, an Indian digital payments app owned by One97 Communications Ltd, was blocked on Play Store for unregulated gambling and sports betting. This went against Google’s policies.
PayTM app along with PayTM First Games app was removed due to its violations of gambling policies in India. According to Google Play store, any external site promising monetary cash back or reward also falls under violations of Google Play services.
Madhur Deor, President of PayTM, meanwhile said that Google objected to Paytm’s cricket-themed sticker hours after its launch. They then removed the feature and launched the revised version.
Despite the sudden ban, Paytm quickly informed the users that their wallets were still safe.
It became available on the Play Store after a few hours. PayTM tweeted about the quick return after few hours of ban as promised.
