Schools reopening in Odisha seems unlikely due to the rapid spike in Covid-19 cases and they will remain closed until August 31. Previously, there were many speculations around the corner that the state may reopen schools. But Mass Education Minister Samir Ranjan Das denied it.
The schools in the state closed in March in view of coronavirus outbreak and remained so. Teachers are conducting online classes through various apps. However, most of the students are facing challenges of internet connectivity and accessibility to smart phones.
After unfurling the National tricolour in Jaipur on Saturday, school and mass education minister Samir Ranjan Dash stated that reopening of schools from September does not look possible in Odisha.
Teachers encouraged to go to students’ homes
“Going by the rising number of Covid-19 cases in August in Odisha, it cannot be said with certainty that the sitation will be normal in September. Keeping this in mind, the state government will soon launch a new scheme ‘Shiksha Sampark yojana’ to provide education to 60 lakh children.
The minister informed that 22 lakh children in the state are pursuing e- education. However, the remaining 38 lakh students cannot do so due to poor network in their area. So the minister suggested that teachers go to children’s homes to teach them.
Das said that the Ministry is reducing the syllabus for this batch as three months of the academic session passed by already. The revised syllabus will be finalized next week.
The total number of covid cases in the Odisha touched at 48,796, including 15,5427 active cases and 33,020 recoveries reported in the last 24 hours.
