Officials updating the NRC (National Register of Citizens) in Assam said that they will recheck the rejection orders. Presently, they know that around 1.9 million out of 33 million applicants are not on the final NRC draft from August 31, 2019.
Each excluded person should get a rejection order. Also, the order would state the reasons for their exclusion.
After that, as per the procedures framed under the Supreme Court, a person has a 120-day window to appeal for inclusion after such an order. Then, they can appeal for inclusion at the Foreigners’ Tribunals in Assam.
Hitesh Dev Sarma, the State Coordinator for the NRC, said that some rejection orders were faulty. He said ensuring proper reasons for rejection was necessary for the exercise.
