A 25-year-old man threw acid, then petrol on his 22-year-old partner to burn her, and left her in a pit to die. Locals found her but hours later and took her to the hospital, but she succumbed to her injuries later. She managed to give a statement before she died, which led to a proper probe. The incident happened in Maharashtra.
The man, Avinash Rajure, was travelling on a bike with the woman, from Pune to Nanded, the woman’s native village. The two had been living together in Pune for a few months prior to this. At around 2-3 AM on October 14, they stopped at a secluded area in Yelamb Ghat in Beed district. According to the police, Rajure first tried strangling her. When she resisted, he threw acid at her. He also poured petrol from his vehicle over her to set her ablaze, and pushed her into a pit.

Rajure fled after that. At around 2 PM on Saturday, a shepherd heard her whimpering in pain. When he found her, he called for the police, and they took her to the Beed Civil Hospital. By that time, she already had 50-60% burn injuries. After battling for her life for 16 hours, during which she managed to give a statement too, she passed away on November 15.
Police are yet to find and arrest Rajure, as well as understand the motive behind such a heinous crime. They alerted neighbouring jurisdictions and meanwhile registered a case under relevant IPC sections at Neknur police station.
