While the Gandhis are meeting the Hathras victimβs family, the Trinamool Congress chief Mamata Banerjee held a protest in Kolkata against what people are calling the Hathras horror.
The last time the Gandhis tried reaching Hathras, cops detained Rahul Gandhi. According to the cops, the Gandhis couldnβt enter Hathras due to the ban of large gatherings. Even though Rahul Gandhi said that he would go alone, they detained him. They released him a short time later.
They also manhandled and shoved Derek OβBrien and other MPs who went to meet the family later.
This time, police temporarily stopped the Gandhis yet again. In fact, there were 200 cops in riot gear with lathis at the Delhi-UP border to stop the entry of Congress leaders specifically. The Gandhis were travelling with 30 MPs, including Shashi Tharoor. Despite the trouble they face, they said that they would repeatedly try until they succeeded.
Meanwhile in Kolkata, CM Banerjee marched from the Birla Planetarium to the Gandhi Statue and Central Kolkata to protest against the Hathras horror. Security forces surrounded her while hundreds of people followed her as well. The CM accused BJP of using the Dalit community to get votes, and then turning around and abusing them insstead.
Sita Mai had to give agnipariksha (trial by fire) once. Today, in Uttar Pradesh, not only is there rape, the victim is burnt.
