‘Family didn’t want us to be friends’, claims main accused in Hathras rape case

The main accused in the rape case of a Dalit in Hathras now claims that he was friends with the woman, and accused her family of framing him.

The main accused in the rape case of a Dalit in Hathras now claims that he was friends with the woman, and accused her family of framing him. He furthermore alleged that the woman’s mother and brother tortured her and stated that he was innocent.


Dalit woman dies in hospital after rape

Sandeep Thakur is the main accused of the Hathras rape case. Police arrested him and three others for the gang-rape and murder of a 19-year-old Dalit woman. Her family claimed that Sandeep often harassed women, but as he belongs to the upper caste, no one previously voiced out against him. However, after he and three other raped and abused the Dalit woman, she passed away at a hospital. Ever since then, her family stood strongly by taking Meanwhile, UP police stopped the media and the public from entering Hathras for a short time. A relative of the family also reported that the police took the family’s phones and threatened them.

Main accused says he is innocent, claims he was friends with woman

Now, Sandeep wrote a letter to the police in which he claims that he was friends with the Dalit woman. They apparently met and talked on the phone as well. Earlier, cops too claimed that there were call records between them. On the day of the incident, he apparently went to meet her in the fields. She later asked him to leave, so he left to feed cattle. After that, he states that villagers told him that the woman’s mother and brothers physically abused her as they wanted her to stop being friends with him.

He claims it was not him who harmed her. He thus wants an investigation into the case to β€˜get justice’ for him and the three others who were apparently falsely framed.

However, the family denied all the allegations. They said that the accused are merely trying to get out of the case.
