The University of Madras is going to hold final semester exams as open-book exams and allow students to send their answer scripts by post if they do not have good internet facilities at home. The exams will begin from September 21.

Students will take a mock test on September 18 and 19 in order to understand the procedure fully. Prior to the exam, they have to download their half-tickets from the official website. The same website will also have the rules for the exams.

Although there is essentially still space for malpractice, the Vice-Chancellor believes it is still the best option for students.

We are in the middle of a pandemic. Many colleges are used as quarantine centres. Students do not have stable internet connections for real-time online tests. This is the best option we have.

For the morning session, the question will be available from 9:30 AM and the exam will begin at 10 AM. Likewise, in the afternoon, students can download the paper from 1:30 PM, and the exam will begin at 2 PM. The papers will remain available for half an hour before the end of the exams, that is, 11:30 AM and 3 PM respectively.

Open-book exams’ answer scripts by post for Madras University students

Then, the open-book exams will begin from September 21 at the University of Madras. These will last an hour and a half. During this time, the students will download the question papers after entering certain personal information for authentication. An SMS will inform them that it has been downloaded. After that, they need to SMS the nodal officer that it has been done so as a confirmation of the student taking the exam.

Students with good internet connectivity will upload their scripts online within three hours of the exam. However, if any student cannot do so, they are permitted to send the scripts by post to the university which should reach by 3 PM the next day. Following that, they should again SMS the nodal officer to confirm that they uploaded the script. In case of the internet issues, students may upload it more than once.
