After their five-year-old daughter was killed, police had to stop the parents from setting themselves on fire after they alleged a minister was involved. The police allegedly did not take action earlier against the accused as well.
The parents, Ashok and Saudamini Sahu, are from the Jadupur village of Nayagarh district in Odisha. Earlier on July 10, their daughter was playing near their home, after which she was kidnapped. Two weeks later, they found her body in the backyard. She no longer had her eyes and kidneys.
They thereafter lodged a complaint with the Nayagarh Sadar Police Station. According to the father, Ashok, they named the accused at the grievance cell of the district Superintendent of Police as well as the collector. However, the police allegedly took no action even after this.
Education Minister involved in murder of daughter, say parents
According to the parents, an aide of Education Minister Arun Kumar Sahu by the name Babuli Nayak played a role in the murder. Thus, the minister was likely involved too. The police thereby gave in to the political pressure. Furthermore, the accused and co-accused apparently attached the parents on October 26 after they refused to drop the case. After this, the police arrested 10 people, but let go of the main accused.
The parents went to the Odisha state assembly building in Bhubaneswar now to demand justice for their killed daughter. However, the case was taking a toll on them. They poured kerosene over themselves and nearly lit a match when the police stopped them. The officers then seized the kerosene and matches and took them into custody.
