On Tuesday, at UNGA, India criticized Turkey for getting into India’s internal matters after President Recep Tayyip Erdogan shared his view on Kashmir conflict to be a burning issue. Moreover, he suggested that Turkey’s mediation could help. However, India does not seem to want anyone’s help. In fact, the government even turned down Trump’s suggestion for the same earlier.
In 2019, President Erdogan had called for mediating the Kashmir issue and also had supported Pakistan on raising their voice on this issue. Despite India not taking it too well the last time, his opinion was quite strong.
This year, President Erdogan in the UNGA (General Assembly of the United Nations) virtual address said that the problematic situation in Kashmir became even worse after the abrogation of the special status. In fact, he called it a ‘burning conflict’.
In order for the Kashmiri people to look at a safe future together with their Pakistani and Indian neighbours, it is imperative to solve the problem through dialogue and on the basis of justice and equity, but not through collision.President Erdogan of Turkey
India slams Turkey over opinion on Kashmir
As a reply, India’s permanent representative for the UN, T S Tirumurti, tweeted about the unwanted interference of Turkey. He furthermore advised them to only limit their opinions to their own policies.
Erdogan furthermore added that they would like to help with the issue as per the UN framework. They would also communicate properly with the public of Kashmir.
WION reported that India also slammed Pakistan, Turkey and Organisation of Islamic Corporation at 46th Session of Human Rights Council earlier.
Under Simla Agreement 1972, India earlier had bilateral agreement with Pakistan about settlement of Kashmir issue. Ever since the abrogation of Article 370, India considered it more and more of a matter of ‘India’ rather than of Kashmir and its people. It also disregarded others’ opinions on it.
