In Uttar Pradesh, six died after consuming toxic, illicit liquor, which also left 15 people in the hospital. According to locals, the victims drank the liquor only last night and felt sick soon after. Some people are also questioning the government on their lack of action for such incidents as they are not uncommon.

This incident occurred in Amilia village, in Prayagraj, UP. A couple ran the liquor shop from where the victims drank it. One mother said that her son Anil fell ill after drinking the liquor from that shop. Locals also reported that the shop-owners have, in fact, several cases against them as they smuggled liquor in the past and sold it. They apparently also sold fake liquor. Despite this, they continue to have three shops in the area.

The couple is presently under arrest. Meanwhile, the reports of the liquor samples sent for testing are yet to come. Prayagraj District Magistrate Bhanu Chandra Goswami stated that they will confirm the exact cause of deaths only after the sample reports as well as autopsy reports arrive. The couple will face the appropriate punishment if found guilty.

Priyanka Gandhi Vadra, Congress leader, already slammed the UP government as they have not investigated deeply enough despite quite a large number of deaths in similar incidents.
