Hetero Lab Limited received the approval to sell its version of the anti-viral drug favipiravir to treat COVID-19.

The company is among the drug makers that have a license to make remdesivir, another anti-viral drug.

Hetero said that the price per tablet of the drug favipiravir is 59 rupees. Also, it will be available in medical stores from Wednesday. The drug has approval for treating mild to moderate COVID-19.

The drug Favipiravir was original development by Japan’s Fujifilm Holdings Corp. Back then, it was under the name of Avigan and was used to treat influenza.

Favipiravir and remedesivir are now being used to treat COVID-19 in India. They are like emergency treatments to fight against COVID-19.

Globally, coronavirus cases have crossed 16.7 million, resulting in more than 6,59,000 deaths. Meanwhile,Β India is the world’s third worst-hit nation which crossed 1.5 million.
