A 21-year-old teacher, among other fans, died by suicide after slipping into depression following the death of her favourite actor, Sushant Singh Rajput. Her death was not an isolated incident as others, including children, felt depressed as well and passed away similarly.
Sushant Singh Rajput’s death
Sushant Singh Rajput, at the age of 34, passed away by suicide. As a rising star, no one expected his death. Many people looked up to him for his achievements, and loved him for his nature as well. Moreover, he did extremely well academically before his acting career too. His death deeply affected everyone.
Teacher, fan of the actor, passes away by suicide
On June 16, Suman Kumari, a 21-year-old teacher at a private school in Andhra Pradesh died by suicide. She discontinued her Intermediate education to become a teacher. For around six months, they could see that depression was affecting her daily life. Often, she seemed detached from her surroundings.
After hearing of the actor’s death, she felt shocked. Moreover, her family said she was constantly watching his videos. Finally, one day, she went into her room and locked it from the inside. Despite her family’s repeated knocks, she did not open the door. So they broke it down and found her body hanging from the ceiling. Initially, police booked a case of death under suspicious circumstances. However, the autopsy proved that it was a case of suicide.
His death affected children too
The passing away of Sushant Rajput affected children who were his fans as well, leading to some of them dying by suicide.
Three days after his death, on June 17, a girl aged 15 years died by suicide in Andaman and Nicobar Islands. Investigators found a diary in which she wrote notes on the actor.
Then, on June 19, a 10-year-old boy in West Bengal passed away the same way as the actor. Reportedly, he felt severely disturbed by the sudden death of Rajput.
Finally, on June 20, a 12-year-old child in Uttar Pradesh passed away similarly. According to the Superintendent of Police, Sarvesh Mishra, there was no immediate trigger. The child’s family claimed that the boy watched news of Rajput’s death for a long time. Like the teacher, he went into his room and locked it. At the time of his death, his mother, grandmother and elder sister were home. His father works as an engineer at a private firm in Greater Noida. After his death, his family insisted on not conducting a post-mortem.
Depression is a common factor of all their deaths. After Rajput’s death, many people of the film industry spoke up about mental health and depression. However, it is clear that children too need more support than they are getting right now.
