A 26-year-old Dalit woman’s body was removed from the funeral pyre by upper caste people in Agra minutes before cremation.

The incident took place last week. Soon enough, the video went viral on social media. Following that, it sparked outrage from the public.

Then, Bahujan Samaj Party (BSP) chief Mayawati took this matter to Twitter. She called the act shameful and condemned it. Moreover, she talked about discrimination by the upper caste against lower castes, such as Dalits.

The Dalit woman’s body was allegedly removed by the Thakur community at the Agra crematorium. The Thakurs said that this cremation ground was not for Dalit community. They did not gave them permission to perform the final rites.

Mayawati asked the Yogi government to proceed with serious investigations. She also asked them to chase down the people who were the part of these deeds for the prevention of such acts in future.
