A couple was shot dead by the bride’s father and brother in Udham Singh Nagar, Uttarakhand. Police reported on Tuesday that they were against the marriage.

Nazia and Rashid, the couple, had eloped and married each other in June. After that, Nazia’s father threatened the groom outside his house about shooting the couple if he saw them near Alli Khan mohalla, where they live.

Rajesh Bhatt, ASP Kashipur, added that despite the arguement, Nazia’s father later invited the couple to stay for a afew days at his house. In fact, he apparently did not have anything against the marriage anymore.

However, on Monday night, the couple was returning from a market in Kashipur on a motorcycle when Nazia’s father and brother stopped the motorcycle and shot the couple dead. The accused are still on the run.
