The woman who filed a rape FIR against BJP MLA Mahesh Singh Negi over a week ago now demands a CBI probe into the case. She already sent a letter to the state government of Uttarakhand to make her demand known.
Negi is presently the MLA of the Dwarahat Assembly constituency in the district of Almora. Earlier, on August 16, the woman filed a rape case against Negi, a BJP MLA. She furthermore demanded a DNA test to confirm that the child she was having was his. However, he claimed it was a conspiracy.
An ACJM (additional chief judicial magistrate) court then heard her petition and told them to file an FIR with the police. Hence, on September 6, the police registered the FIR against MLA Negi, and his wife, Rita, under sections 376 (rape) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
Rape survivor: CBI probe into case against BJP MLA needed – no trust in state agencies
The woman sent a letter to the Home Secretary, stating that the police tried coercing her into a settlement. They allegedly also tried to prove that the DNA report was fake. She thus is not expecting the case to turn out fairly if a state agency inspects it, and would prefer if the CBI did so. However, SP Shweta Chaubey denied the allegations. According to her, the woman did not agree to recording her statement on camera, and a special investigation squad is already performing a probe.
In case they do not follow her demand, SP Singh, her lawyer, will file a petition in the High Court to demand a CBI probe. The letter was emailed to the Home Secretary on Tuesday and will also be sent by post on Wednesday. The CBI probe is not only for the rape case, but also an extortion case against Negi’s wife and her family.
