In Aranmula in Pathanamthitta district, Kerala police arrested a 25-year-old ambulance driver, Noufal, for the rape of a 19-year-old Covid-19-positive girl.
The police said the survivor received the Covid-19 positive test result on Saturday while quarantining in her relative’s house in Pathanamthitta.
Initially, there were two women in Noufal’s ambulance, each to be dropped at a different hospital. However, Noufal dropped one patient and then allegedly took the girl to an isolated location where he sexually assaulted her. Later at around midnight, he dropped her at a Covid-19 care centre.
Police said that the accused is presently in quarantine. He will come before court via virtual mode.
Kerala health minister KK Shailaja directed GVK Company, the operational partner of state health department 108 ambulance services, to dismiss the driver from the job. She also expressed grief for the terrible crime and directed police to ensure stringent punishment for the accused.
