Assam CM Sarbananda Sonowal ordered the arrest of Kolkata ideologue on Friday for calling the founder of Ahom Dynasty ‘Chinese’. Garga Chatterjee, who calls himself a Bengali nationalist and federalist, has allegedly hurt Assamese sentiments. Basically, he called the founder of the medieval Ahom dynasty a Chinese invader.
Mr.Chatterjee earlier referred to the Chinese attack on Indian soldiers in Ladakh. He tweeted: “There is a State in India where the ‘State Day’ is celebrated to commemorate a Chinese invader who brutally attacked India with Chinese troops. This invader is considered a hero by #China-funded anti-Indian separatist group ULFA (United Liberation Front of Asom).”
He also accused CM Sonowal for making the BJP using “Indian tax money” on his statues.
December 2 is Assam Day, which marks the arrival of Chaolung Sukaphaa from Mong Mao, now in China’s Yunnan province. Sukaphaa is the founder of the Ahom dynasty in the early 13th century. In fact, he unified various indigenous ethnic groups to form Bor Asom, which forms much of the present-day northeast.
