All freeway wayside facilities to have EV charging stations

Minister of street transport and highways Nitin Gadkari advised Parliament on Monday that charging stations have been included as a part of Wayside Amenities (WSAs) being awarded by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) and that this shall be adopted in all present and upcoming highways.

The NHAI has already awarded 39 such amenities and proposals for 103 extra websites are on the bidding stage. Additional WSA websites, as and when recognized by the NHAI, shall be put up for bidding.

The concept is to make Indian highways assist inexperienced transportation and to offer the infrastructure that might facilitate long-distance runs by EVs.

All bidders for creating wayside facilities must decide to offering EV charging stations. It is predicted that works which have already been awarded can be accomplished by the top of FY23.

The ministry of heavy industries (MHI) had invited proposals from authorities organizations and public sector undertakings (PSUs), together with energy distribution firms to construct and function charging infrastructure on expressways and nationwide highways underneath the phase-11 of FAME India Scheme. Energy Efficiency Services Ltd (EESL) consortium and Convergence Energy Services Ltd (a subsidiary of EESL) have been awarded the work for establishing charging stations alongside 16 nationwide highways/expressways.

In order to facilitate EESL, the NHAI has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with EESL. According to the MoU, the NHAI will present area close to the toll plazas and its buildings for set up of charging stations primarily based on a income sharing mannequin. The area shall be supplied to EESL for free of charge foundation for durations as determined by the NHAI.

The ministry of energy has revealed pointers and requirements for the charging infrastructure, which stipulate the necessities concerning the density and distance between charging factors.
